I have signed up for Yuletide again. We'll see if I get screwed as usual again.

The one thing I wish they had was an option to say "Any characters, as long as it's a gen request." That would have opened me up to a number of other things I could have written, but I didn't want to get slammed with some weird-ass pairing request if I said "any" under the current set up.

I found a few of the fandoms to just be damn odd to be called 'fandoms'. I'm not saying that it's OMG BAD EVIL WRONG! to be into them, but I just... as a fandom? I know this is the small-fandom fest, but seriously, there's an existing fandom of any size for some of these?

Public Service Announcements? Unless there's a band out there with this name that I don't know about, someone wants a fic based on a fried egg and "This is your brain on drugs"? I don't get it.

Or things like videos that have their own 'fandom's listed. I'm reasonably well informed about Duran Duran as a fandom. I'm not into the RPF, but I know where it is and that it exists, so I get the "Duran Duran - RPF" category. I don't get the fandom listing for both "Wild boys - video" and "New Moon on Monday - video". I mean, sure, NMoM tells a while counter-culture/revolutionary/post Cold War (WWII?)/underground liberation group, but to make a fandom out of it... do you rename the band members to make them characters and NOT be RPF AU?

So like I said, it's not that it's OMG Wrong!, it's just that I'm not quite sure how they qualify as *fandoms*.

*shrugs*

In other news, I just saw an ad for NCIS: LA that has me going, "Is it Tuesday yet? No? How 'bout now?"

I didn't like the way they started the Vance arc on LA that's wrapping up on NCIS tomorrow, so I suspect I'll be grading papers through that one.

I was not sure, but NanoWriMo is a good thing.  Once again, I have found that the things that scare me are the things from which I learn.  Things.  Such an all-encompassing word, one most of us cannot do without.  My things, your things, whatever you wish to put in that mammoth open bag, or box.  Imagine what you will.  That is why we write, isn’t it.

The NanoNovel is going places I had not imagined, just as I had hoped.  I got a little stuck on Day 5, added a new character and have been going strong ever since.  It's fun to watch your own mind change gears, to write along and words appear on the screen that you hadn't planned.  Fun.  My gosh, it's the most amazing thing.  Such an adventure.

I am so fortunate to be able to do this.  Aren't we all?  Writing is even more exciting than reading, and I never thought anything could replace a good book.  Only I would never give it up . . . reading.  Greedy me wants both.

Summary: Sharon looks back at Kara with a wink. "So," she says, lips curling into a smirk. "You gonna tell me why you've got a picture of the new CAG up in your locker?"

Author's Note: This came out of a need to write someone ribbing Kara about the picture in her locker. I decided post-YCGHA was the best way to go, since then I could use the excuse that, until her knee healed, Kara had someone helping her get dressed and such. That person became Sharon, and then Lee popped in for a bit, and just for kicks, I threw in a reference to one of my favourite fanfic cliches, and all of a sudden I had a 1500+ word fic.

Title comes from a quote by Walt Whitman, in vague reference to Kara: "I no doubt deserved my enemies, but I don't believe I deserved my friends."


( Kara's been out of sickbay and back in her bunk for a week when Sharon plops herself down at Kara's feet, disturbing her from the cheap paperback horror she's been reading in her downtime. )

I just realized that while what I was doing was perfectly innocent, if my neighbors called the cops, I wouldn't be surprised.

See, Charolette is still on my window and the light is MUCH better now. So when she started to move about on her web and turned so that I could see her back instead of her belly, I ran for my camera again. Only this time I thought to use the telephoto lens and get as close as I could. Which meant standing on the bed.

Now, I'm on the 4th floor and my windows look directly across to the windows on the 4th floor of the building next door.

So if my neighbors were to have looked across they would have seen me standing on my bed, shooting through a telephoto lens through my window and apparently into their apartment.

So if this should ever be a problem, is there anyone out there who I could call for bail... or be my lawyer if I get sued for being a Peeping uh... Tonya? Tomisina?

4:30 a.m.: wake up feeling like I've been chewing on old carpet, discover I can't breathe through my nose. Take Benadryl. Fall back asleep 15 minutes later.

8:00 a.m.: Body decides, "wow, you've been asleep for a *really* long time. Time for wakers. And a potty break."

8:02 a.m.: Benadryl decides to wrest control of brain from me. Brain fights back. Seriously, who needs 10+ hours of sleep?

8:05 a.m.: brain and ferrets win. Drag self out of bed, get ferrets out.

8:09 a.m.: Benadryl stages a coup. "Fine! You can be awake, but you can't have any energy with which to DO anything. Ha ha ha ha ha ha!"

8:10 a.m.: ferrets discover this fact and stage a rebellion by climbing on me and up on the bed shelf where they know they don't belong. Benadryl laughs as brain goes, "screw it, there's nothing up there for them to get right now anyway."

8:13 a.m.: brain waves little white flag and goes off to flip 14 stoves in CafeWorld every ten minutes and plow fake Rice. Maybe if it waits a few more minutes Bendaryl will grow complacent and it can steal back enough energy to go make coffee and combat this evil invader. Maybe. In a few minutes...

Michael Scott has seriously, SERIOUSLY made me physically angry this past episode. And no, I think it's over Michael. You're not just socially awkward and unfortunate. You're just selfish, mean, and good gods damn I wish Pam closed her fist. Pathetic LOSER.

No matter what you personally believe, it's probably a bad idea to call somebody a devil-worshiper in a business situation. And hell, the American Armed Forces recognizes Wicca as a religion.

Folks are currently trying to organize a boycott. I think B&BW needs to move fast to save this.

To distract myself from the increasingly noisy Yankees celebration outside my windows (I am, friends, a stranger in a strange land - aka a Red Sox fan in Yankeeland - so this celebration is doubly annoying to me!), I'm doing yet another meme. (Maybe this is all I do these days? I meme, therefore I am?)

In other news of rampant consumerism, I talked myself out of ordering a $400 handbag online (it was $250 on sale, but not in my favorite color) and after a trip to Macy's bought this bag in the loden green instead and after a bunch of discounts, I only paid $80 for it. So the rest of the money I "saved" will be for my upcoming purchase of an iPod Touch, wheeee! Aside: It's surprisingly difficult to find a bag that's large enough to hold a book and my wallet, keys, cell phone, iPod and Filofax (yes, I am old-fashioned about that!) while not being SO big that I can do myself injury when carrying it fully loaded! I think this one is perfect in that regard, though I have exceptional abilities at stuffing my bags full of things I actually don't use every day!

I'm getting distracted from my "Farscape" watching by a desire to re-watch all of "Friday Night Lights" - I watched the second half of season 1 during the wee hours of the night when my child was a newborn and I've forgotten so many of the details, I feel as if it will be like watching new episodes! Meanwhile, I did see "30 Rock" last night and ( Spoilers )
